Nampo Seolleongtang — A Warm Bowl of Busan’s Old Downtown

A deep simmer in the heart of the old city. A single bowl settles the restless day.
Main
- Located right at the entrance of Nampo-dong, a warm bowl here gives you the perfect "fuel" to explore every corner of the district, all the way to Bupyeong Traditional Market at the far end.
- Compared to other Seolleongtang restaurants, it is affordable and operates 24/7. Whether it's the crack of dawn or the middle of the day, you can always stop by for a peaceful and satisfying meal.
A Step: Perspective
A Timeless Tonic for the Korean Soul.
In the history of Korea, beef was once a rare and precious luxury.
Because of this, even the broth simmered from beef bones was treated with great reverence, making Seolleongtang a special "Boyang-sik" (health tonic) for many.
There is a famous Korean classic short story titled "A Lucky Day" (Un-su jo-eun nal).
In it, Seolleongtang is portrayed as the most poignant and special gift that a poor, struggling laborer desperately wanted to bring home to his sick wife.
It shows that for Koreans, this soup has always been more than just food—it is a symbol of deep, heartfelt comfort.
Though Korea has become a wealthy nation and Seolleongtang is often seen as a quick, convenient meal in our busy modern lives, its essence remains unchanged.
To this day, it remains the ultimate "soul food" that restores a tired body and lifts a weary spirit.

Local Tips
- The broth is served pre-seasoned, so taste it first. Add salt and pepper bit by bit until you find your perfect balance.
- Eating Seolleongtang with Kkakdugi (radish kimchi) is an unwritten law in Korea. Just look at the thumbnail photo for the ultimate pairing.
- To be honest, this place doesn't have a long, storied history. I am recommending it as a "Best Value" spot that won't let you down.
- If you are looking for a more traditional and historic taste, I recommend 'Seoul Kkakdugi' right across the street. It has been a landmark since I was a child, and the taste is exceptional. Just keep in mind that the price is about 1.5 times higher than this place.
